STEAM training for Intermediate Phase teachers 4 weekly workshops

1. Drawing for Learning: 13th March

Using drawing as a learning tool is proven to aid memory (Madden, 2019). Gain drawing confidence and skills while learning about the underlying thinking abilities that are developed during the drawing process (Hetland et al. 2013).

2. Light-boxes: 13th March

Problem solving and communication development for teachers and students. Cross-curricular module design facilitated through the construction of a light-box (Perimeter and Area, measurement, story telling and life cycles).

3. Exploring colour: 20th March

Learning how to ‘see’ without preconception. Promotion of observational and language skills through looking and describing tonal variation in water-colour paint. Primary/secondary colour mixing, adjectives, liquid density scienceexperiment (water and wax).

4. Play-dough and plants: 27th March 

Learning through the senses. In this workshop we follow a recipe and make play-dough that is scented with lavender, rose geranium, lemon, vanilla and cocoa. Vocabulary development through descriptions of smells. Properties and uses of plants, photosynthesis, 3D shapes and map work skills (see photo).
